Lauren Putty White is a Baltimore-born dancer, choreographer, educator, and writer whose work blends the freedom of jazz with the depth of modern dance. She holds an M.F.A. in Dance from Montclair State University and a B.F.A. in Modern Dance Performance from the University of the Arts.

White’s performance career has taken her across the globe with companies such as Parsons Dance and PHILADANCO!, as well as in collaborations with independent artists including Waheed Works and DB Dance Project. Her choreography—recognized for its social consciousness and improvisational vitality—has been commissioned by BalletX, Grace Dance Theatre, Bryn Mawr College, Drexel University, Washington and Lee University, and others.

A passionate teacher, White has served on faculty at the University of the Arts, Temple University, and the School District of Philadelphia, in addition to working with AileyCamp Baltimore. With her husband, jazz musician Brent White, she co-directs Putty Dance Project, creating critically acclaimed works that have been featured at the Kimmel Center, Boston Contemporary Dance Festival, Baltimore Dance Invitational, Stockton University Performing Arts Center, and more.

Her improvisational voice has also found a home in music, performing as a featured dancer with the Sun Ra Arkestra at Carnegie Hall, SummerStage in NYC, the Big Ears Festival, the Montreal International Jazz Festival, and SFJAZZ. She has collaborated with dance scholar Melanie George at the National Center for Choreography in Akron, guest taught at Cornell University, and appeared with Philadelphia jazz greats including vocalist Denise King. Beyond the stage, her insights have been published in thINKingDANCE.

White is the creator of Free Form Body Motifs, a movement methodology exploring improvisation to Free Jazz music. She currently serves as a Teaching Specialist in Dance at Stockton University and is the 2025 Performing Artist in Residence at Glen Foerd in Philadelphia.
